Composting software for green waste and food waste sites

Composting sites turn garden waste, food waste and green material into compost. The trucks arrive in bulk, the volume follows the seasons, and from October 2026 every load in has to be logged with DEFRA's Digital Waste Tracking Service within two working days.

If you hold an environmental permit to receive green or food waste for composting, you are a receiving site under the DWTS. That covers open windrow and in-vessel composting alike. If you operate under a registered waste exemption rather than a full permit, check your specific category with your regulator, since DEFRA has not confirmed a firm Phase 1 date for that group.

Composting waste sits in a narrow band of EWC codes, mostly the 20 02 and 20 01 chapters. Source-segregated garden waste is coded differently from mixed municipal green waste, and getting that right means the record is correct on the day rather than fixed after an inspection.

LoadLog records the load from a phone or tablet at the gate. The operator enters the waste type, the EWC code, the vehicle and the carrier. The system checks the carrier registration against the Environment Agency's public register, both parties sign on screen, and the record submits to DEFRA automatically.

Compliance Lite is free until the end of 2026 for anyone who signs up before October. Composting sites can meet the first year of the mandate at no cost, including the busy summer months.
