Waste carrier software for the expected October 2027 mandate

Waste carriers join the Digital Waste Tracking Service in Phase 2, expected to become mandatory from October 2027 (the date is not yet confirmed in legislation the way the October 2026 receiving site mandate is). From that point, carriers across the UK will need to record their part of every waste movement digitally, likely starting at the point of collection, before the load leaves the customer's site.

That is a bigger change than it sounds. Today a carrier often arrives, collects and drives off, with the paper WTN sorted out later. Under Phase 2, the digital record is expected to start at the point of collection, with the right waste type, EWC code and carrier details, though DEFRA has not yet published the full detail of how that workflow will operate.
